Huntington Lake

Operated since the late 1950’s by the Verdugo Hills Council, Camp Silver Fir is an accredited BSA camp*, located in the Western Sierra Nevada mountains just east of Fresno. Just off highway 168 and less than one-half (½) mile from the northern shores of beautiful Huntington Lake, Camp Silver Fir is the superb mountain setting for your next summer adventure. At an elevation of 7200′, the breathtaking mountains, lakes and streams that surround Camp Silver Fir provide the basis for many activities and adventures that your unit or family can take advantage of.

Open mid-June through August, Camp Silver Fir sits in the middle of luscious pine and fir trees and is surrounded by mountain streams. The camp provides plenty of spacious, level campsites to accommodate your unit or family. Campsites are equipped with picnic tables csf-campgrnd1-smand piped cold water. Camp facilities include the campfire circle, plenty of firewood, propane stove/grill, food storage, flush toilets and hot showers. Refrigeration is available for storage of perishables. Units provide their own tents, meals, leadership and programming. Camp Silver Fir does not operate on session. Units and begin and end their stay on days most suitable for their program.

Hersh Lodge is where you will find the resident Campmaster, an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer Scouter who is a members of the Friends of Silver Fir Committee. They maintain and watch over the Camp. Friendly and informative, the Campmaster will do his best to make your stay at Camp Silver Fir as pleasurable as possible.

Camp Silver Fir can be used as a jumping off point for one of the most breathtaking treks into the high Sierras, but it is also an ideal place for units who want to mix the beauty and solitude of the High Sierra with the opportunity of carrying out their own high adventure program.

Arrangements can be made to have a Friends of Silver Fir Committee member visit your unit and make a presentation on Camp Silver Fir.

For long-term trek base camp, the cost is $6 per person (hikers may stay in camp two nights without additional charge); for Scouts in camp, it’s only $3 per night. Family camping is $12 per night. Reservation are due at the VHC Service Center at least two weeks prior to your trip. The reservation form is available on-line from our Forms library.

*Camp Silver Fir is accredited by the BSA National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP).
