Save our Pool Progress!

0528141018 imagejpeg_1

Progress is being made on all fronts for the pool at Camp Verdugo Oaks!

First, we have raised $6000 of our goal!  We have received several direct donations, sold many tiles, but we need to get more of our Save Our Pool cards out!  They are only $20 and each buyer receives free pizzas, burgers, chicken dinners, go karting, roller skating, massages, manicures for mom and so much more!  You don’t even have to sell them, (although $2.50 of each card goes to your pack, troop, team or crew!) but if every family bought just one, we’d have enough to finish the pool!  Call the Scout Shop today!

Save Our Pool!

What did you miss at the Council Program Kick-Off?

You missed the announcements of the upcoming events from the Activities committee, dedicated to helping fill out your unit’s program!  Camporee, Webelos Woods, 10 Commandments hike, Raingutter Regatta and more!

Cub Camping!  Two, count ‘em two Day Camps!  Resident Camp!

Of course, the most exciting announcements was the Kick Off of our Save Our Pool program!  The pool at Camp Verdugo Oaks is nearly 60 years old, and the copper lines underground have finally given out.  It will take $40,000 to fix the pool.  This includes new lines, drains, filters and new plaster!  No more rough plaster!

The Council Board has decided to front the money to get the pool fixed before summer!  But we have to pay it back, ASAP.  How are we doing that?  There are two exciting ways: Our new buy a tile program, and the Save our Pool discount card.

The Buy a Tile program works like this:  You can buy a tile for $50.00, paint it, decorate it as you wish and it will be glazed, fired and installed at the pool at CVO for all eternity!  Recognize a Scout, a Parent, your Unit!  It’s up to you!  But wait, there’s more!!

Rahla Frohlich, Bill James and Larry Widdis have issued a challenge to you!  The first 20 tiles sold will be matched!  That means your $50 becomes a cool $100 towards the pool!  Hurry though, 13 of those 20 were sold at the Kick Off!

The Save our Pool card program works like this:  We have partnered with Domino’s Pizza, Del Taco, Moonlight Rollerway, Racer’s Edge Go Karting and many more local businesses in the Burbank, Glendale and Montrose areas to provide free services and discounts to our Scouts and Units!  For example, Domino’s provides a free medium pizza, Del Taco a free Double Burger, Moonlight Rollerway has free skating and rental, and Racer’s Edge has a free Hot Dog and Drink and 2 for 1 Go Karting!  There are also free massages, manicures, DJ services and so much more.  Each card is $20, with $2.50 of each card going back to your unit to help fund your program!  The card has over $900 of free items, and is good until June of 2015!  If every Scout in our council purchased one card, we’d fund the pool!  But, we know some Scouts will want to go out and sell cards to make money for camp, uniforms and gear.  Contact the Scout Store for pick up details! You can buy a card, or you can check out cards for your unit in increments of 25.  A representative of the VIP card program will help you sell cards, even helping stand in front of stores or events to make sure you get the most out of the program!  Buy enough for your Cub Den, and make an easy outing at the Roller Rink!

The Save our Pool program received a tremendous boost with a $1000 donation from Serv-Pro! You can check the process of the pool fund right here as we update it with each new total.

Welcome to the new VHCBSA.ORG!

Welcome to the new VHCBSA.ORG!

As you can see, we have a brand new web site for the Verdugo Hills Council.  There are now places for our Districts to post information and many, many more upgrades.

As with any change, there are going to be problems.  Please write to the web team and let them know if you find any broken links, or information errors.  Constructive feedback about site navigation, items that need to be on the site, etc. would also be helpful.
